Wall Climbing?

I am little confused to say the least. Maybe someone can help me with this one. On the first floor of the campus center, near all the comfy couches, there appears to be some kind of wall climbing device. This "thingy" looks likes a spider web and has a big blue cord hanging from it. Do we offer wall climbing in the campus center? Or is this device yet another piece of puzzling Umass Boston artwork?

  1. I remember watching the artist hang that piece. She was up on a lift very carefully moving the netting around. My inner art skeptic wondered if she really had a plan or if it was just whatever the hooks and gravity allowed. Abstract art is not my thing but this one isn't awful-- blobs in the science building courtyard I'm looking at you. It sort of reminds me of fishing boats which you could say ties into the campus on the water thing.

  2. Sometimes my friends from other schools come to class with me so we can head into Boston right when I get out. I like to tell them that the founders of UMass Boston were pirates and that net is all that is left of their ship.

Speaking of obscure art at UMB, my favorite by far is the "Double Cubes" outside of Wheatley. Must of took that person hours to think of that one.

  3. I think it's just another case of terrible art. I've been getting into abstract art recently, but I think that net thing is seriously pushing it.

  4. Thanks for helping me out with this one. To my dismay, I guess this is artwork. I was hoping that we were offering some fun wall climbing activities. I guess we will just have to add this one to the other unusual artwork around campus.
